This award is given to an exceptional UC Irvine investigator whose work is broadly focused on the biomedical sciences. The awardee is an individual who has contributed substantial new insights and knowledge in the pursuit of improving human health and has linked basic science with clinical application.

The nominees will be judged on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Relevant discovery in the past year
  • Innovation
  • Impact of the scientific work on the development of disease diagnostics and therapies
  • Overall magnitude of the individual’s contribution on a regional, national, and international level
  • Collegiality and collaboration
  • Mentorship
  • Service and outreach

Nominees must be fulltime UC Irvine faculty at the rank of assistant professor and above. We will also consider emeritus faculty whose career contributions are deemed to have been exceptional.

To nominate an individual for this award (self-nominations are accepted), a one-page letter describing the suitability of the nominee for the criteria noted above will be required. In addition, we will need an NIH-format biosketch.

The recipient of this award will be honored at the UC Irvine Pathways to Cures Celebration of Translational Science on May 12th Dinner.
