2015 Mentor-Mentee Award

DISTINGUISHED FACULTY MENTOR-MENTEE AWARDS

The UC Irvine Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) is proud to announce the call for the third annual Faculty Mentor Award. An award will be presented to UC Irvine faculty who has shown an outstanding commitment to mentoring, advising, and support of clinical and translational science research. Nominations are expected to come primarily from junior faculty and doctoral, masters, and professional training program students who are actively engaged in translational research at UC Irvine.

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 25 2015.

Eligibility

Any faculty member at the level of Associate Professor or above can be nominated for the award so long as the nominee directs research education and career development in the broad scope of clinical and translational science. Nominees must have an outstanding record of mentoring research and career development at UC Irvine.

Selection Criteria

The ICTS Faculty Mentor-Mentee Award focuses on distinction in research mentoring and career development. As such, it is not intended to be a teaching or research award. The selection committee will consider how the nominee has exceeded the standard role played by an adviser with respect to the following criteria:

  • To what extent has the nominee helped the nominator(s) become a professional in their field?
  • To what extent has the nominee helped shape the research work of the nominator(s)?
  • To what extent has the nominee provided outstanding personal support/development?
  • To what extent has the nominee been a role model for the nominator or others?
  • To what extent has the nominee exceeded the standard role of a mentor as justification for this recognition?

The selection committee, consisting of members of the ICTS Steering Committee and the Council of Mentors, is interested in specific examples of extraordinary mentorship and support for career development.

Nomination Process

In order to nominate a faculty member, the nominator must have directly benefited from some aspect of the candidate’s mentoring or career development. The primary nominator must be a present or former UC Irvine affiliate; associate nominators can include any category of affiliations or consist of jointly written letters.

Nominations must include:

  • A completed online nomination form
  • Up to three (3) nomination letters, each no longer than 1000 words; letters must include the first and last names, email addresses, mailing addresses, and contact telephone numbers of the nominee.

All nominations must be submitted electronically online at http://www1.icts.uci.edu/nominate/index.cfm?eventid=12
