Annual LEAPS Conference
Life-threatening Events Associated with Pediatric patients in Sports (LEAPS):

The purpose of this conference is to review the causes and prevention of life threatening events in pediatric
sports.

Overall goals of the conference are: to convene a panel of experts to share the latest evidence based knowledge
on the mechanisms of sudden death in pediatric sports activities; present the lastest evidence based,
epidemiologically sound information that evaluates the efficacy of screening procedures and preventive
methods at the individual and community levels; create a working group of physicians, health care providers,
and community and school leaders willing to develop research projects focused on preventing sudden
death in the pediatric athlete in our community.

 

Target Audience:

Physicians, educators, athletic coaches and trainers, nurses, first responders, parents and advocates.

 

Objectives:

  • Increase knowledge and competency for physicians who pre-screen adolescents that participate in pediatric
    sports to prevent sudden death while participating in sporting events.
  • Identify standards for the emergency treatment of pediatric patients experiencing life threatening events
    while participating in sports.
  • Develop screening protocols to increase awareness of risks related to pediatric patients
