2nd Annual LEAPS Conference
Life-threatening Events Associated with Pediatric patients in Sports (LEAPS):
Target Audience: Physicians, educators, athletic coaches and trainers, nurses, first responders, parents and advocates.
The purpose of this conference is to review the causes and prevention of life threatening events in pediatric
sports.
- Overall goals of the conference are: to convene a panel of experts to share the latest evidence based knowledge
on the mechanisms of sudden death in pediatric sports activities; present the lastest evidence based,
epidemiologically sound information that evaluates the efficacy of screening procedures and preventive
methods at the individual and community levels; create a working group of physicians, health care providers,
and community and school leaders willing to develop research projects focused on preventing sudden
death in the pediatric athlete in our community.
Objectives:
- Increase knowledge and competency for physicians who pre-screen adolescents that participate in pediatric
sports to prevent sudden death while participating in sporting events. - Identify standards for the emergency treatment of pediatric patients experiencing life threatening events
while participating in sports. - Develop screening protocols to increase awareness of risks related to pediatric patients
