2014 Dean’s Triumvirate Grants
The Dean's Office in the School of Medicine in conjunction with the UCI Institute for Clinical and Translational Science is pleased to announce a new call for applications for the Dean's Triumvirate Grants. This funding mechanism is aimed at promoting novel collaborations among clinical and basic science researchers from the UCI School of Medicine and other UCI Schools and programs. Available funding will include one $50,000 and possibly one or two $15,000 awards.
The overarching goal of the program is to provide opportunities for investigators who have considered interacting with other colleagues in different fields of study, but could not establish the collaboration for logistical, structural or financial reasons. The general premise is that establishing these new collaborations will enhance integration of basic and clinical science and lead to the submission and eventual funding of truly unique extramural grant applications. Ultimately, this process is expected to accelerate the translation of novel scientific concepts into tangible clinical applications.
The term "triumvirate" implies that applications should be led by a team of three fulltime UCI faculty members (assistant professor or higher), from different disciplines, distributed as follows:
It is expected that the collaboration is new, i.e. at least one of the three team members must not have collaborated with the other two in past research projects. While prior successful experience in grant writing is not a pre-requisite for funding, a successful funding history of at least one of the three team members may strengthen the application.
The application deadline is Apr 11, 2014; for funding to start on June 1, 2014.
